Kick your Caffeine Habit with Superfood Coffee Alternatives

It seems that the world runs on coffee. For hundreds of years, the coffee bean has been prized for its energy-enhancing effects. Many people’s routine starts with a cup of coffee, and who can blame them? In our hectic world, people want a boost - but all that caffeine comes at a cost. 


The maximum amount of coffee that is recommended to be consumed every day is 8 oz (one cup) (1); however, the national average is 3 cups of coffee a day (2). That much caffeine can harm the body over time. Caffeine is a stimulant, which means that it increases activity in your nervous system. They can make a person feel more awake, alert, and energetic – sound familiar (coffee fanatics)? But, because the nervous system is tied to every system in the body, overstimulation due to caffeine can be damaging. 


Liver Damage 

The liver is one of the most critical organs in the human body. It filters the blood that comes from the digestive tract before it gets pumped out to the rest of the body. Without this filtration, our institutions would become full of toxins. These toxins can result in organ failure and damage, and if left untreated, it leads to death. A recent study found that drinking excessive amounts of coffee was linked to a 44% increase in liver cirrhosis – a condition where the liver tissue becomes scarred and can no longer function (3). 

 

Anxiety 

Nearly 70% of the population has reported having some degree of anxiety disorder. Anxiety is a mental condition that is associated with symptoms of excessive worrying, fatigue, and intrusive thoughts/overthinking. Anxiety is typically caused by overstimulation of the nervous system due to stress hormones (i.e., cortisol); however, drinking too much caffeine regularly can similarly stimulate the nervous system. Therefore, caffeine can cause people (especially those with existing anxiety issues) to feel nervous or get “jitters”(4). This can be quite unpleasant for many people, so specialists recommend that people with anxiety lower their caffeine intake. 


Insomnia 

Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterized by the inability to fall or stay asleep and sleeping less than 6 hours each night. Since caffeine is a stimulant, it increases the nervous system’s activity, which begins with the brain. This increased activity keeps the regions of the brain responsible for wakefulness active – even when the body is needing rest. This activity in the brain causes a person to get much less sleep than they may be needed due to insomnia. Although there are serious health concerns tied to excessive caffeine consumption, many people still turn to coffee multiple times a day because they need the energy boost. 1- Prep Drinkable Superfoods Right on Your Stove 

This method is super quick and easy – make yourself a fresh Goldyn Mylk in 2 minutes! Take a pot and put it on the stove on medium heat. Add a cup of your favorite kind of milk (we like plant-based milk such as almond and oat)! Now add 1 tsp of your preferred GoldynGlow blend, 1 tbsp of sweetener (we like honey or maple syrup), and then stir! Make sure it is well-combined and heated to your liking – then serve it up & enjoy! 

 

2- Make a Frothy Goldyn Latte Using a Blender or Handheld Frother

If you like fluffy and foamy drinks, then this one is for you! Combine 1 cup of heated milk, 1 tsp of your favorite GoldynGlow blend, and a sweetener of your choice in a blender on high for 2 minutes. Alternatively, if you use a hand frother, add the powder blend and the sweetener to the heated cup of milk. Turn your device on and froth away. Sip, enjoy, repeat! 

 

3- Make a Big ole Batch to Save Time

Sometimes it’s hard to carve out time to make Goldyn beverages in the middle of a busy day. If you can relate, then try making yours ahead of time! Preparing a large batch of Goldyn drink is excellent because you can simply pour yourself a glass and get on with your day.

Add 1 carton or bottle of your favorite milk to a blender. For every cup of milk you use, now add 1 tsp of GoldynGlow blend as well. Then, add some of your favorite sweetener to taste in a blender – and mix. Once done, pour it back into the bottle or carton you saved after using the milk. You can save this mixture in the fridge for up to 5 days.
